One may agree with his political philosophy and activity, or one may not. One may agree in part, but not in whole. One might even find him off-putting.
But one thing we cannot deny is the courage of Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak.
He’s all but 23 years old and has been protesting since he was a 16-year-old high schooler in blue shorts and white socks campaigning for education reform.
He has led Thailand’s protests and the political awakening of the younger generation.
He has spent time in prison without having been found guilty of any crime.
On Sunday, 8 August, Parit turned himself in at the police station on the charges of illegal assembly, among others.
Parit said:
“Today, I came with the courage to stand and face unjust power… I insist I have done no wrong. We demand democracy. We demand freedom and civil liberty. We demand a way out for the people.”
“But it’s okay, as the police must follow the boss’s order. They have more strength as they have more power.”
“However, I would like for everyone to save our strength… on 10 August, the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration group and allies will organize the largest car mob ever.”
