Thai-language media report five teachers and two former students of a school in Mukdahan Province allegedly having gang raped a 14-year-old girl multiple times over a one year period.
They also allegedly took video clips of her and threatened to release the clips if she reports them.
According to reports, the girl’s grandmother told the police the incident first took place in March 2019 and she only learned of it in early May this year. On May 4, the grandmother went to the police.
A report by Thairath said there could be another girl who’s a victim.
Thairath also reported that in an interview with another teacher at the school, the teacher said the five suspects are good men and dedicated to their work. The teacher said it is very unexpected that they would do this.
The teacher also told Thairath the school has set up a committee to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, social media is sharing a post by someone who’s allegedly also a teacher at the school.
The post stated:
“I am not ashamed to have you all as my younger brothers. You are all good at work and are kind. You have done well for society and for many other people. However, you merely lost your senses and your conscience as teachers. I would like to give you and your family my support to continue standing in this world. At least, you still have me, Pi O, who understands you.”
Her post has since been deleted.
The incident has prompted debates on Twitter. One is over many posts saying “men are trash,” while many others have expressed outrage over the following comments.
“Just look past it. They are men who were born with the right to do anything.”
“Does the kid have evidence? There are only words that five teachers gang raped her. The news is out, and what if the truth doesn’t match the story? Are you going to apologize for letting the suspects be embarrassed? The count has not delivered a verdict on whether they did it.”
“It’s been a year, you still call it rape?”
