As reported by Channel 7, one undocumented Thai worker made a list of requests to the government, on behalf of other undocumented workers.
- Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in South Korea, they have no job or money left. Therefore, they would like to return to Thailand.
- As there’s no job prospect in Thailand either, they would like the government to assist them in finding jobs.
- In the meantime, they ask the government to send them face masks, as face masks in South Korea have become scarce.
- They request that the government absorb the airfare costs for undocumented workers returning to Thailand.
South Korea has given all undocumented Thai workers until March 30 to return home without facing legal repercussions, with the opportunity to return as temporary legal workers in the future. However, beyond the deadline, South Korea will impose a fine on undocumented workers, deport them and permanently ban them from entering the country.
